Another classic Disney has released from the vault for a Blu-ray high-definition treatment is “The Aristocats.” From the early 70s, this film has more in common with the more rough and jazzy productions like “The Jungle Book” and “Robin Hood.” It’s a feline version of “Lady and the Tramp,” in which a high society cat falls in love with an alley cat.
While looser on the story than the earlier Disney classics, “The Aristocats” still has a lot of flair and fun to it. The music is hipper than the earlier films, composed by the Sherman Brothers, who were also behind the music of many Disney classics like “101 Dalmatians.” The Blu-ray presentation falls in line with Disney’s remastered classics, giving strong colors and an engaging experience.
The new Blu-ray comes with a DVD that has the special features from that previous release. On the Blu-ray, itself, there’s the lost opening, a documentary on the Sherman Brothers, a classic bonus short “Bath Day,” an excerpt from “The Great Cat Family” and a music video, a slew of songs with on-screen lyrics in the feature.
